Adele - Someone Like You
Stumbled across this video of Adele singing "Someone Like You" in her home. One of my favorite lines in this song is, "Regrets and mistakes are memories made." That sad, poignant balance of regrets that are in some ways too precious to let go. I really like the window into her world with all the quick shots of nicknacks and things she has collected. Some very cool pieces.
Fan Too Far
Just saw a clip of this on the news channel and had to check it out. Hillarious! Love it. Alec Baldwin and John Krasinski do a great job.
This isn't the only clip they've made...I've got to see the rest.

Lazarus
There's a small section in Tennyson's great poem, In Memorium, about the raising of Lazarus from the dead. One part made my breath puff out in a half-laugh, half expression of astonishment, as Tennyson wondered how Lazarus might have answered his sister when she asked him where he had been those several days he was dead, and observes:
Behold a man raised up by Christ!
The rest remaineth unreveal'd;
He told it not; or something seal'd
The lips of that Evangelist.
Indeed. One wonders.
But then the next section of the poem caught me by surprise with its beauty:
Her eyes are homes of silent prayer,
Nor other thought her mind admits
But, he was dead, and there he sits,
And he that brought him back is there.
Then one deep love doth supersede
All other, when her ardent gaze
Roves from the living brother's face,
And rests upon the Life indeed.
Can you even imagine?
And yet someday we will all sit around a table in that company: our beloved dead, who are no longer dead, and Life Himself.
God have mercy on us sinners.
Peace of Christ to you,

One Day | A Focus Features Film | Movie Overview

One Day | A Focus Features Film | Movie Overview
This past Friday was one of those 'want to see a movie by myself days,' and I saw One Day. Wow.
It's one of those movies that leaves you a little stunned. At one point, I thought "there is just no way...." I can't even talk about it without giving the plot away, but it really makes you think about relationships and the way we spend our time.
I recommend the film, but know some are going to say 'what were you thinking!' You'll have to decide for yourself and see if you agree.
Let me know!

Jason Yang on Violin
Saw this video where Jason Yang is playing the Game of Thrones theme song. Did not know that was one person! Amazing to think of the layers that went into this piece. I love it even more now that I know that.
I also saw the piece below that is interesting. Can see a tap piece being set to it.

Camille
This is one of Camille's more elaborate use of acoustics. Not my favorite song but she impresses me with the creativity. In many of her songs the creative acoustics are subtle enough that you almost think it's instrumental.

Jay Sean - Where Do We Go
Stumbled across this song by Jay Sean. Great rainy day, feelin' blue song. I love his voice and the way he uses instrumentals. He has more on YouTube. Well worth the visit.

Always young....
In that world, you couldn't look at someone and know they're a grandfather, a 20-year-businessman, or a high school graduate. Everyone is perpetually young...or at least until they run out of time. As much as I'd sometimes like to be in my twenties again, the idea of looking like my daughter's sister is just too much to handle.

Game of Throne Series

I've been reading the Game of Throne Series (actually its "A Song of Ice and Fire" series) and really regret starting it. I don't have time to be reading and I can't put it down!
George Martin is pretty creative with the world he creates. I have noticed that he uses at least two of the same story lines as Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. Some of Jordan's characters have the ability of 'dreamwalking' that allows them to travel to another place and meet with people in their dreams. Martin uses the connection between direwolves and the Stark children. They are able to see through the eyes of the direwolf and act through them.
Both Martin and Jordan use a strange building that looks ordinary and neglected on the outside, but expands and twists inside. Both buildings cause those entering to become lost and die in most cases, and contain creatures that draw on the energy of the living. Very strange. I've tried to think if I've ever read that scenario in another book, but I can't think of one. Just Martin and Jordan.
They both also have a tendency of centering the chapters around a certain person or group and telling the story through each of the characters. It's the characters that get me. I always want to know what's going to happen to them. If I could just put the book down!
